A Salute to RL Bob

Today we were saddened to learn of the passing of dear RL Bob Morgan who has metaphorically “migrated to the cloud” now.
Bob, or “Uncle Bob” as some of us called him, made so many contributions to the Identity community at large. Notably via: Internet2 Middleware, IETF, IIW, ISOC, Kantara, OASIS… too many to list them all. Recently RL Bob was awarded the Internet2 President’s Award for Leadership where many of his colleagues saluted him (in their best Hawaiian shirts).
When Bob was concerned about the future developments of Identity Federation and losing his “seat at the table” due to medical treatments, one friend remarked, “Bob – you ARE the table.” Even as he prepared to face the medical issues at hand, he was still concerned about the work of the Federated Identity communities!
We in Kantara were honored to get to know and work with Bob in our Interoperability Review Board, working groups and various community events. We were lucky to have him on board as a colleague and friend. He will be missed. We send thoughts to his family and friends and gather virtually to share a joke or two and reminisce about RL Bob and his “grumpy” ways.
Here’s a salute to Bob. We’ll see you in the “cloud” where we’re sure you’ll have fresh baked bread ready to share.
