Kantara Initiative and CCICADA Announce Partnership

They Will Use Applied Research to Develop Real-World Solutions

Addressing Cyber Identity Management Challenges

CCICADA and Kantara to launch trusted services research pilot program

Piscataway, NJ (November 24, 2015) – Kantara Initiative (Kantara) and the Rutgers University Command, Control, and Interoperability Center for Advanced Data Analysis (CCICADA), a US Department of Homeland Security Center of Excellence, announced today that they will collaborate to develop and launch a series of applied research pilots to improve cyber identity management in real-world situations. The research will align key areas of shared interest between the two organizations.

The initial specific areas of research include:

• Authentication of people and non-person entities
• Risk based confirmation of identity that leads to trust
• Data application security at rest and in transit
• Access control at the point of need
• User experience incorporating security, privacy, and informed consent
• Additional areas as may be defined as interests emerge

The research pilots will develop prototype solutions in cyber identity management that can be used by government and business to deliver trusted services to citizens and customers.
Additionally, Kantara and CCICADA will work together to connect the expertise of higher education communities with industry innovators who spread its use.

“We are extremely pleased to be partners with the Kantara Initiative in developing applied research solutions to challenging problems of cyber identity management,” said CCICADA Director Dr. Fred Roberts. “This is one of the most important areas of current homeland-security research.”
Added Roberts: “Our projects will focus on how to protect against fraudulent or threatening cyber activity in real world situations while at the same time protecting the privacy of individuals who do not pose a threat. Potential applications include the detection of fraudulent activity on a web site or suspicious travelers in an airport.”
The initial projects between Kantara and CCICADA are supported via an award provided by the Department of Homeland Security Science & Technology Directorate.
