FutureTrust Welcomes Kantara Initiative as an Associate Project Partner

EU Project Supporting eIDAS Implementation to Benefit from Trust Framework Expertise

BRUSSELS, 29th APRIL 2019 – FutureTrust, a project supporting the practical implementation of eIDAS, today announced the Kantara Initiative as an Associate Project Partner. The Kantara Initiative is the only industry organisation focused on third party assessed digital identity and privacy assurance frameworks. It complements the talent of the existing FutureTrust partners, bringing a wealth of experience in operating trust frameworks.
“Kantara brings two unique benefits to the FutureTrust project,” explains the Executive Director of the Kantara Initiative, Colin Wallis. “Firstly, Kantara’s global community, scope and membership will assist FutureTrust in reaching way beyond Europe and the US. Secondly, our open standards and best practice community development platform supports collaborative working groups and publishing. This functionality has grown in importance as FutureTrust activities have reached a higher level of maturity.”
Chair of EEMA (the FutureTrust project partner responsible for Associate Partners), Jon Shamah, states: “We are delighted to welcome the Kantara Initiatives at this pivotal point in the project. Its global network will help us to raise awareness and drive adoption of eIDAS outside of the EU. Furthermore, the organisation has exceptional trust framework expertise that is invaluable in helping use to take FutureTrust to the next level.”

About FutureTrust
The core objective of the FutureTrust project is to support the practical implementation of the eIDASregulation (2014/910/EU) on electronic identification (eID) and trusted services for electronic transactions in the internal market and ease the utilization and proliferation of trustworthy eID and electronic signature technology in Europe and beyond in order to enable legally significant electronic transactions around the globe.
For this purpose the FutureTrust project will build upon results developed within previous research and large scale pilot projects and integrate existing trust services, which are mostly related to qualified certificates, electronic signatures and time stamps, with the forthcoming eID interoperability framework and conduct research, design innovative solutions and provide Open Source implementations for the recently introduced trust services related to the validation, preservation and mobile creation of qualified electronic signatures and seals.
