[KI-LC] A thought about Projects vs Groups

Likely a good idea, interested on how the governance piece would work. Would these be under a WG? Would these still go the LC for approval? Would there still be an output that gets approved before it gets a Kantara stamp? Would there be an option for external funding? … quick thoughts…

I couldn’t agree more Colin, the Chairs of both CIS & CMS have been moving towards project based initiatives base on two simple reason, not everyone in a WG have the same depth or interest in a general topic of challenge. Resulting in fewer people contributing to the overall group goal, where projects inside of an over arching WG with project contributing to say a general WG called Information Sharing allows for smaller teams to work on specific project they are both interested in and have some level of skin in the game, for whatever the reason.

I like the idea!

Greetings Chairs

I was on a call today with Mark Farmer, Virtual Inc's Sponsorship lead. As we chatted, he drew some parallels with some similar orgs that are clients of theirs and mentioned one that relies on sponsorship significantly, has moved away from groups, and actually just does projects... over 100 of them in this case.

Thinking about how we get tangled up with different projects in one group which is bound to one IPR regime, I had the thought that it might be a way forward for us too.

What do you think?
