There may be interest in this from both Director organizations and the LC
for some WGs and DGs.

Project SPECIAL is known to me as it was used as a comparison with Kantara
Europe's H2020 bid.
It may have been referenced similarly in digi.me's bid with its (different)
In the end it probably made no difference in the outcome for either

Nonetheless, there is an opportunity to be involved and have a second
chance to go to Vienna, if you have missed out on the TIIME workshop in
Vienna next week (all credit and great thanks to our event host and eGov
Chair, Rainer).

If there is interest please share it here so that we can collaborate.

Kind regards

Dear team of the Kantara Initiative!

Please, allow me to introduce myself first: My name is Eva Schlehahn and am
contacting you as a dissemination representative of the EU R&D project

In case you do not yet know SPECIAL, this acronym stands for ‘*S*calable *P*
olicy-awar*E* linked data Ar*C*hitecture for pr*I*vacy, tr*A*nsparency and
comp*L*iance’. SPECIAL is a EU-funded project addressing privacy-preserving
Big Data technologies. We are focusing on the conflict between Big Data
innovation and privacy-aware data protection by proposing a technical
solution that makes both of these goals realistic. We develop technology
that supports the acquisition of legally compliant user consent according
to the requirements of the European data protection framework. Moreover,
(user-centric) control functionalities will be developed which allow for
meaningful usage/access control and for the auditability of data handling
policies to enhance transparency and compliance verification.

You can find more detail information on what we are doing on our website
here: https://www.specialprivacy.eu/

You appeared on the radar of the SPECIAL consortium due to your work on
consent receipts. I had a look at your description of this work on your
website and due to our above mentioned objectives, it is of high interest
for us.

So I am reaching out to you to ask whether you might be interested in
participating in a *W3C workshop on on ‘Data Privacy Controls and
Vocabularies’ on April 17th and 18th 2018 in Vienna*. The main workshop
theme is ‘Linked Data and Privacy’, with topics such as identity
management, categorization of data, modelling data usage, modelling consent
via standardized vocabularies, modelling policies (e.g., with ODRL),
automated reasoning and verification, and the pros and cons of
standardization. See for more information here: https://www.w3.org/2018/

We would like to kindly invite you to participate in this workshop. Please
note that everyone who wants to participate is asked to fill out the expression
of interest form <https://www.w3.org/2002/09/wbs/1/2018vocabws/> or submit
a position statement <https://www.w3.org/2018/vocabws/#position-statements>,
but that should be a brief and easy exercise. :)

The timeline of the workshop is as follows:

• 26 February 2018: Submission deadline for expressions of interest and
position statements
• 19 March 2018: Acceptance notification and registration instructions
• 26 March 2018: Program announced
• 02 April 2018: Deadline for registration
• * 17-18 April 2018: Workshop*

We would be delighted if someone in your team would be interested in this
workshop and in our project in general.

Thank you and with kind regards from Kiel in northern Germany,
Eva Schlehahn
