Subject: [KI-LC] ACTION CLOSURE: Draft Revised KI Mission and Position Statements and context to LC for discussion

Hello LC,

As part of the action review from yesterday's LC call please see the below:

In the Munich F2F meeting for Kantara the mission and position of Kantara was discussed in detail. There were comments that the current official mission was too cluttered and did not provide a clear view of the goals, ways and means of Kantara.

CURRENT Messages:

  * Mission: Foster identity community harmonization, interoperability, innovation, and broad adoption through the development of open identity specifications, operational frameworks, education programs, deployment and usage best practices for privacy-respecting, secure access to online services
  * Vision: Ensure secure, identity-based, online interactions while preventing misuse of personal information so that networks will become privacy protecting and more natively trustworthy environments.

The attendees at the F2F worked through a number of iterations which concluded with the below draft new proposed messages.

NEW Draft - Brainstorm of Messages:

  * Mission: A technology agnostic Accreditation and Approval organization providing programs that enable shared risk mitigation via assured trust in Authentication policy and technology profile deployments for the greater good of identity ecosystems.
  * Position: Kantara Initiative is a neutral organization where policy and technical interoperability meet, best positioned for Business, Regulated Industry, Governments and convergence of International programs.
These draft messages were presented at the close of the F2F to get a general feel for consensus on their appropriateness - at least for those who were in the room. Some groups (Telco specifically) were having a difficult time to see how the draft messages touched their work. However, Telco is also taking up exploration for Telco Trust Framework and thus, with that exploration, Telco becomes more nested under the proposed new messages. Potential challenges were also seen for UMA to nest here, but UMA has also recently be undertaking an UMA Trust Model which also then nests back in to the new proposed draft messages.

The key takeaway here is that the new messages were meant to clearly articulate that all KI groups are operating under the umbrella of Trust > via trust framework components.

LC Actions regarding the proposed new messages:
- Comment
- Support
- Concern
- Object

As the guiding governance branch of Kantara Initiative it's important that we understand LC support and/or concerns which need to be addressed. Additionally with LC support of the messages the tone should also filtered down in to each of your groups. The goal here is to get all KI groups pulling the same cart (so to speak).

Let's discuss via email and then seek to progress and potentially close an LC discussion of this item on the next LC call.
(Heather - with this my action should be closed and now the virtual ball is in the LC membership court ;-) to progress. )

thanks!

=Joni
