[KI-LC] Who will attend? - Fwd: European Identity & Cloud Conference 2012 News

Yep, well I am there too – in 3 panel sessions.

It’s a challenge trying to determine a topic, because we haven’t got the F2F and Summit agendas sorted (and ideally we should carry something of deep/general/innovative interest forward from those).

But determining a topic in advance we must, so let’s get onto it.

- the operational realities of Trust Framework Providers (TFP)
CW: Yep, I like this one because it is an area where KI has a competitive advantage and there is much talk but less walking the talk

- rationalizing international cultural, privacy, legal issues via TF
CW: Yep, I would say it’s part of the above. Cloud has this challenge too of course so there’s a nice tie-up there..

- Operational vs technical interoperability
CW: Again, TF related, and in a government context, related to the Transformational Government/Service Transformation agendas. EIC turned down my submission on this so I suspect they might feel this is just a bit too far off course. They did accept my submission on a panel discussion on SSO/SLO/Idle time out/Session state, which is wrapped up in that panel on Weds 18th here; http://www.id-conf.com/sessions/982

- Applicability across domains (by industry financial, healthcare, etc)
CW: Of TFs? I wasn’t sure if this relates to the sub head above, or something separate. David Simonsen from WAYF is speaking s well so we could add Higher Ed. My sense is that the message we want to put out is that any existing Fed, formal or informal, in any industry, can come to Kantara to have it certified (maybe not before some work to improve it, use of the IAF and the PF but still, eventually have it certified) so it might be part of the first topic above.

- NSTIC and connecting to non-US jurisdictions via TF model (otherwise)
CW: On a quick scan of the agenda so far, I don’t see a specific NSTIC-related panel, but I’m sure it will be mentioned several times by several speakers. EIC may feel it’s too US centric, but KI is possibly best placed to connect the dots in the govt spaces – between NSTIC, to Canada’s Pan Canadian Assurance model, to the UK’s Identity Assurance Programme and the D-Hub, to Australia’s National Trusted Identities Framework, NZ’s igovt Program, and the various initiatives in the EU – IDABC, STORK, but several more I can’t drag form my brain right now. Of course this runs very close to the above’s “ - rationalizing international cultural, privacy, legal issues via TF”, but has potential.

I think we may need to socialise this thread out to specific KI WG’s – eGov, IA, P3, FI, Telco, maybe others – in order to access the people closer to the ground on some of these.

I'm wondering who from LC will attend. I see some familiar names of people we know already on the agenda. I'd like to know who else plans to attend and I'd like us to think about a compelling topic to submit which is tied in but does not completely overlap with the KI Summit day.

I have conjured a few discussion points which might be interesting:
- the operational realities of Trust Framework Providers (TFP)
- rationalizing international cultural, privacy, legal issues via TF
- Operational vs technical interoperability
- Applicability across domains (by industry financial, healthcare, etc)
- NSTIC and connecting to non-US jurisdictions via TF model (otherwise)

Who else plans to be in town and what additional topics should we brainstorm for a potential speaker panel submission?

Next-Generation Identity Management

Managing identity has never been more challenging. Enterprises are under pressure to run efficient operations and provide visibility into every aspect of the organization – and to accomplish these objectives with smaller budgets and less staff. To keep pace with today’s new infrastructure challenges, organizations must shift the way they think about identity management. Heavyweight, monolithic identity management solutions are becoming relics of the past. The key to moving ahead is to rethink your approach – to become more business-centric and more modular in how you define your identity management requirements.

In this workshop, you will explore how governance-based identity management helps companies holistically manage their evolving IT environments in light of today's business realities. You will gain knowledge of best practices for implementing this new approach to identity management without disrupting existing processes or deployed technologies. We will make recommendations on how to chart your path from manual/legacy approaches to a new generation of identity management solutions.

This workshop is designed for IT operations, security managers, and IdM project managers who want to design a successful path for their identity management program. During the workshop, identity management experts, Darran Rolls, CTO of SailPoint, and Mat Hamlin, Sr. Product Manager, will discuss:

 *   Understanding the new identity management ecosystem: managing user provisioning, lifecycle management and compliance business processes while integrating seamlessly with existing identity infrastructure and adjacent technologies such as SIEM, ABAC, DLP and more;
 *   Addressing security for the cloud environment: How to extend enterprise identity management to address governance and compliance for SaaS and cloud based applications that currently fall outside of IT’s control;
 * Crafting a sustainable identity management strategy: How to address immediate security, compliance and service-delivery requirements while incorporating a long term strategy for business improvement and operational efficiency.

The Cornerstones of Information Security: How IAM can Catalyze the Secure Enterprise

IAM (Identity & Access Management) is one of the cornerstones of Information Security. Thinking in identities and putting the security of information and the access to information in the center of attention is the foundation for improving information security. Moving away from device-centric and network-centric security to information-centric security allows to better understand information risks and the required actions to mitigate these risks and better secure your enterprise. Leading industry experts, all with an analyst background, and KuppingerCole analysts discuss the role IAM plays for information security and the future of IT Security in general in this panel.

Directories & Identity Virtualization: One Identity Service, Many Initiatives: Exploring Use Cases for Identity Virtualization

Modern identity infrastructures are a tangled web of identity sources, protocols, and varies security means. This panel discussion will focus on the challenges around unifying a disparate identity infrastructure for identity management and federation initiatives. The panel will explore how an identity service, enabled by virtualization, can be used to tackle many kinds of identity management challenges, and facilitate the addition of new identity stores and populations. Nick Sabinske’s experience at Teleflex will serve as a catalyst for the panel discussion, while Ulrich Schulz of Radiant Logic will extend the discussion with other real-life deployments, and Fulup ar Foll from KuppingerCole will provide an objective, third party view of the industry.

Re-engineering IAM to better serve your Business Needs

Identity and Access Management like most of the organizations have implemented is on change. Provisioning as the core element in former days still plays some role, but with Access Governance becoming established, new concepts like Access Intelligence (in its still somewhat undefined form), integration to SIEM, re-thinking of established IT concepts like Message Queueing for the role they can play in Identity and Access Management and many other influencing factors, Identity and Access Management has to be re-thought where it is still established. The art of re-engineering is the balance between an advanced solution and architecture on one hand and the protection of investments. How can you leverage what you have towards a more mature, more flexible, more future-proof, business-focused solution? What will you need in the future and what does it need ot go there? And what about dealing with new groups of users like your customers and trends like BYOD (bring your own device)? And how about the changing requirements around privacy and information security?

KuppingerCole strongly believes that it is time to re-engineer Identity and Access Management and to rethink the established approaches. Martin Kuppinger and Dr. Horst Walther will present the future view of Identity and Access Management and explains how to best re-engineer it.
