I defer to Aude and Jonas as the telco specialists here, but one might
want to distinguish between, say, a PC (no dedicated hardware to
encapsulate a given user's identity) and a mobile handset - or more
specifically the SIM in a handset.

That said, I don't know how useful that distinction might turn out to be
in practical terms, and in any case the phrase "machines and devices"
probably doesn't reflect it.

(Just my €0.02 ...)
