IEEE-SA joins Kantara Initiative Board of Trustees to drive Identity Management Open Standards

February 25, 2014, Piscataway, NJ – Kantara Initiative, a global identity initiative community, announced today that IEEE-SA has joined the Kantara Initiative Board of Trustees.  The IEEE Standards Association (IEEE-SA) joins innovators on the Kantara Board Members from CA, Experian, Internet Society, ForgeRock, Nomura Research Institute, Radiant Logic, Terena and Government of Canada.
IEEE-SA, one of the founders of OpenStand with ISOC and others, has a commitment to open standards development for the benefit of humanity. Kantara Initiative is one of the early signatories of the OpenStand Principles to clearly indicate the Kantara Initiative commitment to open standards development governance. IEEE-SA brings a wealth of experience to Kantara Initiative in areas including but not limited to the Internet of Things, HealthIT interoperability, security architecture, and network connectivity.
“The IEEE-SA shares Kantara Initiative’s commitment to openness in standards development,” said Konstantinos Karachalios, managing director, IEEE-SA. “IEEE standards are created within a formal, rigorous process that is rooted in openness, as well as principles of consensus, due process, right to appeal and balance. In these ways, IEEE-SA processes help harness and magnify the power of creativity and varied expertise globally in open, collaborative development of market-driven standards with a proven history of fueling technology innovation, market growth and societal benefit.”
Kantara Initiative influences transformative innovation within Identity Management. Kantara Initiative helps organizations to establish verified trust in use of digital identities for business and government services by collaborating with industry to develop and operate Trust and Interoperability Frameworks and Programs with global focus and application.

“We’re pleased to welcome IEEE-SA as a Kantara Initiative Trustee and an industry leader demonstrating that Identity Management must be supported by open standards development with the benefit of multi-stakeholder expertise,” said Joni Brennan, Executive Director, Kantara Initiative.
